Mr Tsebi, an Escravos community leader in the oil-rich Niger Delta
was apprehended and severely tortured by some youths from his own community.
As part of the torture he was made to eat bread soaked in his own blood,
but he managed to survive to tell his story. The epileptic judicial system
could not do anything and the corrupt Nigerian Police did not help matters
either. Shortly after Mr Tsebi's ordeal, the same group of youths meted
out a similar treatment to the Chairman of the Escravos Community Trust
Mr. Metseagharun but he did not live to tell his story as he died in the
hands of his kinsmen. Mr Metseagharun was a highly respected retired top
civil servant reputed for his honesty and selfless service.These stories
like that of Ken Saro-wiwa, the playwright and environmental activist,
